e-Book Anyone?

I had a thought and I'd love your feedback. I am thinking of writing an e-book.

My blog chronicles my kinky adventures with my husband. It is actual events (except when specifically tagged as fiction), mostly engineered by me as role plays. Sometimes the other women I bring in have been asked by me to play, other times it has been more happenstance. I do have to confess that sometimes I take a bit of artistic liberty to move the narrative along. For example, I sometimes don't exactly remember what everybody said (including myself!), but write it as if I do. Or maybe fill in the blanks based on something david told me without my actually being there to witness it. I've tried being 100% honest but it gets to be a bit of a dreary read!

But in some cases I feel very tempted to describe a scene how I would have wanted it to play out, rather that how it actually did (and >*blush*< sometimes I've even succumbed a little - guilty guilty guilty!)

So here is my e-book idea. For a bit of the book I'd describe the "Scening FLR" relationship I have with my husband, how we got started, how he got started, and maybe some practical tips for those who would like to play along at home. But most of the book would be chapters each covering off a particular scene. My starting point would be some actual scenes we played out, but I wouldn't constrain myself to what actually happened. Rather I'd fictionalize the scene with things that could have happened, or that my husband or I would have wished happen. I'd keep it 'kinda 'sorta realistic so you could still believe it if you twist your head sideways a bit, and write it as if it was true to life. For example, in one chapter I'd describe an amalgam of the various panty shopping expeditions I've done with my husband in real life and shared on my blog, but take it further into the realm of fiction, maybe end it with david across my knee in the change rooms while the salesgirls look on. This never actually happened, but both he and I would have loved if it had!

I would never preface it with "this actually happened", or let on where fantasy parts ways with reality, but just start in on a chapter describing a scene, and let it go wild by the end. It would in essence be a collaboration between david and I, because we talk about where some of our scenes could have gone afterwards during debrief, and I'd definitely incorporate those ideas as well as my own.

I'd keep my blog going, of course, to recount our scenes more or less as they actually happen, and to continue interacting with all you guys and gals, but also have this thing.

Now, I am thinking of charging for this e-book. I know. Up to now my blog has been totally non-commercial, but I have a ton of hits (almost 3 million page view to date, and google analytics tells me a half a million unique visitors in the past 2 years), so I am thinking maybe it would be cool if I somehow made some money by cashing in on my "fame". Would you all hate me for that? I'm thinking I can make enough for a beach holiday in Hawaii (fngers crossed!). It would be cool taking such a holiday knowing all you pervs out there paid for it (don't worry, I count myself amongst you!).

I'd imagine the e-book would be a good solid read, like 200 or 300 pages. So real book size, not like some of those porno femdom e-books out there (I did my research). What's a fair price? Is $6.99 too much? Would you pay more? Should it be less? Would you guys support me? Buy a copy and write an amazing 5 star comment maybe (if warranted)?

What do you think?
I nervously await your feedback!

  1. Dear Julie,
GO for it.There is a paucity of really good spanking material available and even less of F/M. Keep it as real as you can within the confines of artistic license ( the lack of realistic situations is what makes much of the existing bad). With your large audience many of whom are experienced in DD relationships you might have a goldmine of marketing research suggesting topic areas, and book ideas. Making money as an author is a combination of hard work and luck but with e-books you can control much more of the royalties you earn but its not easy. I think the best that's been done so far might be the Mistress Manual which is non fiction and not so much a model as an indication of what can be done. There are probably an army of wives and girlfriends out there who have been asked to take disciplinary control and want to do it but don't have a clue. You as someone who has been there can offer them a lot of information and entertainment ( and even if they don't buy it, their husbands and boyfriends will buy it for them.
Good luck with a promising venture

  3. oh yes, I can speak for all us pervs -- we're all behind you (or wish we were, on our knees ) -- We'll all be proud to kick in 6.99 for the e-book.
Maybe plan a Hawaii chapter where david sports lovely marked and reddened bum into the water. Are there nude beaches there?
No?, then a black bikini bottom to set off his ass.
thank you for all you've given us pervs,

  4. If your goal is financial profit, you'll have to consider the risk of losing money, how many people are going to buy it when they have YouTube xhamster and other blogs and website, in my opinion don't enter this business, its not worthy and you also will loss your privacy, you can do other things like Amazon wish list, or product reviews, or writing script for film producers, anyway good luck

  6. GO FOR IT, PLEASE! I would be the first in line to buy it! You write beautifully - you have a gift with words. It would be great if you can also include images like in your blog, but with or without images your book will be a best seller. And don't sell yourself short. A book by Strict Julie with 2-300 pages should go for more than $6.99! I can't wait.

  9. Ms Julie,

I say why not have a go? Your writing stands out from the crowd to me. I usually feel I'm 'gilding the lilly' when I provide sketches for your posts. Plus your writing is always rooted in reality. I doesn't drift off to where it loses believability, as some others do. I'll buy it if I can keep my anonymity.

I wonder if you can bring in an overall direction or plot? A progression or journey. to keep people looking for that next chapter?

    Can't wait,

  11. Hi. I've written several short FM ebooks and stories. Publishing is extremely easy and there is no financial risk at all. They also sell themselves - due to people actively looking for FM stuff. If you need any advice or help, feel free to email. Based on what you said, I would have some questions and suggestions about how your idea could be maximized.

  13. Hello

As a long time reader of your blog who admittedly checks in daily for updates. I would certainly love to read more of your writing. As far as cost goes with the quality of your writing it's almost a non-factor. Price it comparable with other books out there and I am sure you will have no trouble selling copies of it.

Thank you again for being you and sharing as much as you do with all of us. We are so damn lucky to have found you out here.

  14. Your writing is grounded in reality and you hit the sweet spot (no pun intended) of mixing detail with the emotional thoughts racing through your (and the readers!) brain. That's why your blog is so erotic and addictive. You have the talent- SO much better than 50 Shades of Grey! I'd say go for it!

  15. You certainly have many supporters, I too look forward to you updates. Your are also an excellent fun writer! Not to put a damper on the idea, but one of the things I really do like is that the posts is that they are based on your real life experiences. So I'm not sure how I would feel about fantasy. Obviously you won't know until you try it, but the fun of your blog for me is that it's your life, not a made up reality. So, for me, reality trumps fantasy every time. Wishing you the best.

    1. It would still be based on real life, but I'm thinking amalgams of different experiences, and then a little extra that I would have wished could have happened in that situation, but still in the realm of the possible. It should appeal if you enjoy the stuff on my blog, as it will be that plus more!

  18. Dear Julie,
I heartily agree with the above readers that I would be happy to pay for a full book of your well written and extremely exciting stories. Knowing that this is all real life experiences makes it very special. I don't think the general public is ready for this yet, but who would have thought that 50 shades would be read by so many! You may be a hit author in a few years. Of course, you already are a hit author here with your many enthusiastic and appreciative readers.

  19. Julie,

I think it is a great idea as long as you are mostly doing it for fun. As someone who enjoys your writing, I would definitely buy a copy. I do have three thoughts though:

    1. I know you keep this blog secret. Would the book be secret too? If not, it would be hot if you made David contribute something. On the other hand, it might be even hotter if David unknowingly contributes something.

    2. I think your fans would appreciate it if David got a special punishment if you sold a certain number of books (say 1000). Some people, who shall remain nameless, have advocated for diapers, chastity, and other things that David would really hate but secretly like. You could have a poll here and let people decide his fate.

    3. You are very creative in dishing out punishment to your fans when they need it. Perhaps a chapter could be a "naughty" quiz for the reader to fill out along with corresponding punishments at the end of the quiz.

Best of luck with your project,

    Averrous

      1. I am thinking I may have to let the cat out of the bag re the blog with my husband if I do the e-book. How else will I explain all the extra $1000's in cash? Maybe tell him I turned Pro Domme!

      2. Nice idea! The more copies bought, the more I make him suffer!

      3. Interesting idea... A quizz on the reader's kink, and then depending on the answers, a well-suited punishment!

    2. Your point number 1 here is exactly what I wondered about when you first put up this posting. Beyond the question of explaining extra money (and I have no idea how you and david handle family finances), it just seems like adding venues adds to the chances that somehow david will catch on. Sort of the six degrees of separation thing. I'm glad you're considering the possibility, whichever way you go on it.

  27. Hi Julie,

Love your blog, definitely one of, if no the best on the web. The only thing you risk is time and my guess is you would enjoy writing it. Kind of like playing music, you hope others enjoy it, but you play because you play.

If you want to try to make money, then main stream fiction is where it is at. Something like 50 shades but the female is in control. Keep it edgy but not too crazy and who knows! For a title how about "many shades of shades of red, black and blue" or something like that! Perhaps that would be your second project…..

Go for it, you have a readable and enjoyable style. Just make sure it is well edited (which your stuff is) maybe David can be your editor, and any over sights on his part will be costly!

  28. Dear StrictJulie

You are a very good writer, and of course you write about something that we care about with intensity.

I have bought a few books, but never connected in a way that I do to some of your blogs.

I do think, however, that writing a book would be different and more challenging. With femdom stuff, there is a tendency to get ever more intense during the course of a longer story (I am guessing you have seen these nine part stories on Literotica etc. I personally find them pretty boring)

And I personally really like stuff is edgy in the sense that it is new, surprising and provocative. As I have said, I really loved "Impromptu Shopping Trip" as well as how you got in contact with David's most recent trainer.

Many of my fantasies involve getting spanked, pantied, and otherwise dominated for the first time - a storyline that is challenging to maintain over many pages.

I hope you go for it. I love to write, but do so for much of my work and have never found the time to write about femdom. Also, people would much rather read a female writer, so I am not so motivated. I personally have such powerful fantasies that I would love to take the time to try to express them - though I don't know that is likely to happen anytime soon - I am also much too busy with Irene living them out. (She gave me a quick but intense hairbrush spanking yesterday morning before putting me into pink panties and sending me off to work.

Anyway those are some of my thoughts and opinions. Good luck. I will pay whatever you are asking for the book.

  32. Hi, Julie,
I agree with the many fans who love your writing and I urge you to see what you can achieve in the line of e-books. Now that we have 50 Shades teddy bears, the door is open for depictions of femdom that take it out of the cartoon corner. Someday someone is going to have a mainstream femdom hit - could be you. And then you could buy a compound in Hawaii.

    Best, CB

Love your blog. I hope one day I will be lucky enough to have a wife just like you. I love your idea of an ebook, and would have no problem paying to read it. You do deserve to cash in on your fame. However, the thing i love most about your blog is the realism, and i'm not sure it would have the same attraction if I had any doubts that any of your story's where fiction. Personally, i think you should keep it real.
